You will be adding these and many more rules of composition to your tool bag:
Diagonal Lines Leading Lines Converging Lines Selective cropping Rule of Thirds Movement techniques Texture and details Use of negative space Perspective (viewpoint) Depth of field and how to get the most blur Filling the frame http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/2/a/b/4/event_192850932.jpeg
So what is composition, and can I learn it?
Composition is the combination of all the different elements within an image coming together to make it what it is.

You may know the "rule of thirds", but there are many more rules of composition. Adding even 1 rule can hugely improve a photograph.
The good news is, you can learn many rules and start applying them immediately to get stronger, better, more pleasing photos. And that's what this course is about - learning to see things in the environment that can make your photo much more powerful.

Actually all of these photos I have included use several rules of composition. Some of these examples even use 4 or 5!
You will discover how to take many different images of the same subject using different rules of composition. This gives you many different options every time you want to shoot something.

"What about if I use several rules of composition in 1 photo?”
Well there’s a much better chance that it will be a strong image.
Day sessions:
We delve into the rules of composition and see how several rules can be brought together to make powerful images.
NDSM – Amsterdam’s disused shipyard and 1 of my favourite places for photography because there’s loads of examples of rules of composition.

We always go for drinks after every meetup, which is optional of course but normally very popular.
This is what previous workshoppers have said about it all:

We will explore the best camera settings to achieve different results for different composition rules.
If you look at this image below there are many rules of composition coming together to make it appear lots stronger!

Can you see the use of: Leading lines, Depth of field, Rule of thirds, Texture (in the road), and Perspective (it was taken about 5 cms off the ground).
Quick fire team round:
Everyone in the group will partner up, then I will call out a new compositional rule every 15 minutes. You will then go off in 2’s to capture examples of that compositional rule. After each 15 minutes we will all compare results together, then head off in pairs again to capture the next rule.
This exercise will train your eyes to see the many compositional elements that can be added in all environments. I will be bouncing round all the different groups offering suggestions, pointing out new options, and helping you look for combinations.

At the end each workshop I give everyone photo challenges to complete for the next session.
Its a very social experience and we always end the session with a drink or 2!
