Patterns, Best Practices & Tips (Boydlee Pollentine)

Boydlee will come over from the UK to give us a run down of the history of Titanium from a developers perspective - from the early dark today's to the brilliant product we all know and love today. Along the way he'll share some of the insights he's learned and pass on some tips, tricks and best practices that you can take away and use in your own Titanium development projects.

Boydlee Pollentine

Boydlee has spent the last 10+ years working for large corporations and government departments in Australia, as well as successfully running a software development company for a number of years. He now owns and runs a small digital and mobile agency based in Norwich called Tipsy & Tumbler with his partner, Hannah.

An early adoptor of Titanium, he is also a Titan, TCAD and has spoken at numerous events including Mobile Monday and London Titanium. He was also the organizer of the first community run conference in Valencia, Spain and is currently organizing similar events in Australia and the US.

He's also written two books about Titanium development: Appcelerator Titanium Smartphone App Development Cookbook and Patterns and Best Practices.

The event will take place at the offices of imgZine. A very successful, Dutch company powered by Titanium. They've built a platform for publishing real time social magazines. I'm sure you know DNP... well, it's done by imgZine, on Titanium!

That good Android design patterns blog I'd suggested but lost the link to.. well - I found it again! It's a good sharp overview on what you principles should guide your Android designs and what resolutions to target.

It's been great again to meet and learn, share and discuss. Boydlee's perspective's invaluable as a cross check to know where we are standing and learn useful practices. It would be great to have a meetup on the issue of data persistence and synchronisation. Another topic I'd love to be discussed is advanced javascript patterns and choices on inheritance, OO and procedural coding. Great! Let's keep it up!

Good stuff, I concur with Nico and Fokke. Would love if there were a followup with patterns and practices at the level of creating windows, cross-platform navbars, scripting or not scripting stylesheets, data storage and sync, etc.

I agree with Wytze. And as for storage that would be interesting. Haven't spent much time in that yet. But my current ap built up 167 videos and 167 images and that is a lot file handling. Could be interesting to see if a database was a better (or future) solution.

I guess I'll just have to experiment with it and get the nack of it.

Interesting and educational. Picked up a few things I did not know and a few that confirmed I was on the right track.
