Some Toastmasters Internationals History-----
The Toastmasters organization grew out of a single club founded by Ralph C. Smedley on October 22, 1924, at the YMCA (Young Mens Christian Association) in Santa Ana, California, Smedley began working as a director of education at the YMCA after college. He observed that many of the young patrons needed “training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings” and Smedley wanted to help them. He decided the training format would be similar to a social club. During the early 1900s the word “toastmaster” referred to a person who proposed the toasts and introduced the speakers at a banquet. Smedley named his group “The Toastmasters Club” because he thought it suggested a pleasant, social atmosphere appealing to young men. The club he started, originated as a set of classes with the aim of improving the communication skills of the young men under his charge. Ralph Smedley, Founder of Toastmasters International wrote, “Your Toastmasters club is your laboratory in which to try experiments in better communication. You can try anything once in front of frank but sympathetic audience, and you can learn by listening to their comments.”

The first international chapter was established in Vancouver, Canada. On October 4, 1930, the organization was re-named Toastmasters International.

Throughout its history, Toastmasters has served over four million people. Now headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, the organization serves over 364,000 members in 143 countries, through its 16,600 member clubs.

Toastmasters International places a large emphasis on building the public speaking and leadership skills of its members. The current education system consists of eleven differing paths suited to their needs and requirements, based around Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Management, Strategic Leadership, and Confidence.

Many people have benefited from Toastmasters. Raghunadha Raju said, "Toastmasters has a potential of changing your life. It has indeed changed my life. I used to stutter and stammer! But after giving over 150+ speeches in 136 countries my confidence is sky high.
