What we're about
For Tolkien enthusiasts and/or scholars at all levels looking for a single location to aide in learning and researching information related to J.R.R. Tolkien, his works, and other relevant topics.
All levels of interest and knowledge are welcomed to participate, whether you have only seen a movie, or read a single book, or just heard of The Hobbit, the Lord of the Rings, etc. Everyone is welcome to join in the monthly discussions and annual conventions.
This is the home for the greater Spokane and surrounding Inland Empire's area (Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, etc.), the Eä Tolkien Society is a registered official "Smial" of the U.K. Tolkien Society: http://tolkiensociety.org/
We typically meet every 2nd Saturday of the month from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the north Rocket Bakery on Hastings near Mead High School, 319 W. Hastings Road, Spokane, WA.
We are also the founders and primary sponsors for Tolkien Moot ( http://www.tolkienmoot.org ), an annual convention dedicated to Tolkien-inspired enthusiasts, scholars, gamers, artists, authors, and performers from around the world running since 2005.
Admittance to the Tolkien Society is free and open to the public.
Anyone is welcome to join the meetings any time they wish.
The Eä Tolkien Society meetings are free monthly gatherings open to the public. Discussions cover Tolkien's many works, and many other authors or works that inspired Tolkien or author's that were directly inspired by Tolkien's works. We discuss not just The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion, but also all the History of Middle-earth, The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, and his many non-Middle-earth works such as Roverrandom, Farmer Giles of Ham, and many others, including his various translations of others' works such as Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, Pearl, Sir Orfeo, The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun, and often include readings and discussions of Beowulf, and the Finnish Kalevala in addition to other works that Tolkien frequently drew from. Some of the other authors discussed include C.S. Lewis (of course), George MacDonald, and many others.
If you have a Tolkien-related group meeting to discuss all things Tolkien, please consider posting your group's information in this group, to let others know where they can meet with you.
