Snowy Owl Tour Saturday Feb 3, 2018

Do you want to see Wild Snowy Owls? If the answer is yes, keep reading. The Toronto Nature Lovers have had over 75 Snowy Owl encounters this winter. The season will be coming to an end soon, so there will not be too many more trips for the Snowy Owls, so if you haven't seen any this year, this is your chance, so please join us for this exciting adventure! Southern Ontario has had a large influx of Snowy Owls this winter. That makes for an exceptional opportunity to see these wanderers from the arctic. It really is a special moment when you see a Snowy Owl, no matter if it's your first time or hundredth time.

Our trip will take us north of the city in search of Snowy Owls.

I cannot guarantee how many Snowy Owls we will see, but going to our favourite hot spots should definitely put us on some Snowy Owls.

Snowy Owls are quite often far from the road and quite often sedentary during the daytime. But it is not uncommon to see them close to the road as the pictures demonstrate.

That is one of the reasons that we will still be out near dusk when the Snowy Owls start to pop up to higher terrain such as telephone poles to begin their evening hunting.

Other species of interest that we will have an opportunity to see are many types of bird of prey including Bald Eagles, Rough-legged Hawks, Red-tailed Hawks, American Kestrels and Northern Harriers to name a few.

We should also have a chance to see Snow Buntings which roam in large flocks that look like snow flakes flying through the wind if the sun just hits them right.

So you know, this trip we do very little hiking, as we are going to be mostly driving around looking for the Snowy Owls. When we do spot a Snowy Owl, we will exit our vehicle keeping a respectful distance for opportunities to observe and if you like, photograph these incredible owls.

Other Info:

We will be using a passenger van for this outing. Maximum of 5 guests for this trip.

Pick up will be from York Mills Subway Station at 10:45 am in the TTC commuter parking lot located on the northwest corner of Yonge Street and Wilson Ave.

We depart at 12 pm sharp.

Arrive back at York Mills station between at approximately 6:30 pm.

Please dress warm and where proper footwear. It is mostly easy level walking.

Please don’t forget your binoculars and cameras.

Please bring a lunch and drinks or you can pick something up from Tim Hortons.
