Mon. Underwater Rugby practice/game
Your first time trying u/w rugby is free - on us. Once you've tried it we know you'll love it and be back for more! Game Details Skill Level: The club consists of players of all skill levels, from advanced to beginners. Beginners are always welcome, and will be introduced to the sport before playing. Time: Please arrive at 8:45 so that we can organize and maximize our permit hour. Go directly to the change rooms to get ready and meet us pool side. In addition, at 10:00 we should be trying to quickly finish up out of respect to the staff who need to lock up. Rules: The basic rules are that you can only tackle the player with the ball, otherwise contact is not allowed. When tackling, equipment, swimsuits and the head are off limits. Violent play is never allowed. The ball has to stay below the surface and players are not allowed to grab the net. Further rules will be explained at the pool. There are detailed rules available on-line here (http://www.ndf.no/getfile.php/1102/CMAS_Int_UWR_Rules_Aug_2011.pdf). Gear: We try to have enough extra gear to accommodate new-comers, however with a larger crowd some compromises may be needed. FYI, it usually takes about 15 minutes for everyone to gear up. Gear overview: -Basic swimming gear (trunks or suit, plus a towel) -Swimming fins -Mask -Snorkel -Waterpolo cap (http://www.canamuwhgear.com/Water-Polo-Cap-p/hg-wpcap.htm) Everyone should at least bring their basic swimming gear, however if you have fins, masks or snorkels, please bring them along. Let us know your shoe size if it is your first time playing and you don’t have fins. Returning Players: It would great if you bring your own gear. Gear can be purchased at some dive/scuba shops, however it's recommended checking out on-line stores such as CanAmUWH (http://www.canamuwhgear.com/) and BentfishUSA (http://www.bentfishusa.com/). My favourite gear includes the Sphera mask (http://www.canamuwhgear.com/Aqualung-Sphera-Mask-p/mask-sphera.htm), CanAm Large Boar Snorkel (http://www.canamuwhgear.com/CanAm-LBS-Large-Bore-Snorkel-p/smg-lbs.htm), and Mares Quattro Power Fins (http://www.canamuwhgear.com/Mares-Quattro-Fins-p/fin-maresqtro.htm). Before you buy anything though, try as many fins, mask and snorkels as you can from other club members. After Game Drinks & Food: On Fridays we usually head to a spot nearby.

What we're about

Underwater Rugby is an exciting sport involving strategy, skill and fitness. Played at the bottom of a pool using snorkeling gear, teams try to get the ball into the opposing teams basket. The sport is relatively low-impact (tackling happens underwater only), a good cross-training activity and offers an interesting break from other traditional sports.
