Summer is over, but #towebperf is back!
It's time for another meetup! Are you ready?
I'm thrilled to announce that Marcos Caceres (https://twitter.com/marcosc) and Henri Brisard (https://twitter.com/HenriHelvetica) will be joining us for the November edition.
1. Standardization at Mozilla: how Firefox exposes functionality to developers and how developers can shape the standardization process of the platform
Marcos works for Mozilla designing and standardizing next generation features for the Web through the W3C and WHATWG. Recent projects include HTML’s element, the Orientation Lock API, and a new JSON-based manifest format to enable web applications to become installable. Marcos has been developing for the web since 1996.
2. The Biggest Loser: Web Images Edition
In the ongoing battle for which images will fit into skinny iPhones and Android screens, the image formats as we know them have been forced to go on the most elaborate of diets. What once was the accepted format, for desktops, is no longer acceptable in 2014 and beyond. The biggest q?: which #webperf diet to subscribe to. Is it the picture tag technique?? Or is it the now widely supported srcset tag? Is there a back end solution that can be employed? Or will it be a complicated mix of all 3 to achieve the best #webperf possible? In a quick presentation, performance pugilist Henri Brisard will take a quick look at some of the more recently discussed solutions.
Henri Brisard (@HenriHelvetica) is a local dev who has found enjoyment in studying performance as well as accessibility. When not hanging at Fort York library, he can be found hanging at 416 Snackbar or watching NFL.
We hope to see you all!
