Did this last year in February, and we were cold! So let's try end of March - it should be warmer! This is a trip to Wine Country for some fantastic outdoor fun. Breathtaking scenery, fantastic wine, food and outdoor adventure. Never been camping before? No problem! Want to get away and enjoy the cool weather while sitting by the campfire sipping wine! This is the weekend! BOTHE-NAPA VALLEY STATE PARK -- 3 Days, 2 Nights Oak and redwood trees. Hiking. Campfires. Native American Garden. Close to local wineries! ALL ages welcome and ALL skill levels. No kids and no dogs. Only ask that you are fit enough for 1-2 mile hiking walking and able to assist setting up your own tent. We will be heading up to the Bothe-Napa Valley State Park for the long weekend. Leaving the LA area Saturday am, we will arrive on Saturday afternoon in time to do a little exploring & have group picnic dinner and get to know folks. Sunday, we will venture out for a hike in the morning and then for those who wish to visit the local vineyards we can carpool and we’ll caravan to 4-5 wineries in the afternoon. If you are not interested in visiting the wineries, there will be options for hiking and exploring the area. There will also be plenty of time to relax & enjoy the campfire. Fun fact: Bothe-Napa Valley State Park is home to six different kinds of woodpecker. The campground is 3-mins away from the wineries. After hiking, a quick shower and voila we will be off to another world. This is an easy camping weekend – in a fully equipped campground. There are bathrooms with running hot water. Showers (you will need quarters for shower), and lots of restaurants and stores near by – not to mention the local vineyards! Note: • There is poison oak…lots of it. Don’t worry, I will share information on how to spot it and what to do if you come in contact with it! • It will be cool, the weather in even in March is expected to be in the mid- to high-60s during the day, Perfect hiking weather! And mid-40s for the evenings -so pack and dress accordingly. Cost for the 2-night trip is $85 per person. The campsite has limited parking- so carpooling will be necessary. I will help coordinate carpooling and our potluck meals so we can eat together and minimize the prep work for our meals – and maximize our relax time. If you up for a weekend of outdoor fun and sipping wine by the campfire, please RSVP “Yes” – and I will connect with you to make sure you’re prepared and ready to go for the weekend. You won’t be confirmed on the trip until you’ve answered the questions and paid. What to bring Basic car camping gear: -- sleeping bag/blanket (warm enough for cooler weather), -- pad/mattress/, -- flashlight/headlamp, -- the hiking clothes and shoes, etc. Don't worry if you don’t have a tent – we will work together. I will help organize our meals so we can eat together – we will ensure we provide options for vegans and vegetarians. I will also provide cups, plates and utensils. You will need to bring your own drinking water, personal snacks and your contributions for the meals. What is included? -- All the coordination, logistics, and the campsite -- Picnic lunch on Sunday during our winery tour -- Pancake breakfast on Monday morning -- Organized hikes and excursions around the park
There is no need to leave Southern California for an abundance of “travel” opportunities. Continuing with our theme of exploring your own neighborhood, our next excursion will be to the Getty Center. http://www.getty.edu/visit/center/ In addition to the amazing art in both their permanent collection and the rotating collection, the museum is a spectacular place to wander and enjoy the Southern California sunshine. http://www.getty.edu/visit/center/art.html http://www.getty.edu/visit/exhibitions/ There are some breathtaking panoramic views of the city, with architecture elements that highlight the local nature and culture, designed by Richard Meier. And the 134,000-square-foot garden, created by California artist Robert Irwin. There are more than 500 varieties of plant material are used in the landscaping. Join us for another amazing Travel LA Day!! We’ll meet at the Lower Café, at the outside tables at 10:30 am. The Getty opens at 10, after you park and take the free tram up the hill – head over to the Lower Café, grab a cup of coffee if you like and find us at the tables outside. We’ll have time to meet everyone, learn a little about each other and talk about what we want to see at the Getty. After an hour or so of wandering we’ll take a little break back at the Lower Café for another chance to chat and reconnect after we’ve explored and taken in the sights. Here is a map of the Getty Center so you can find your way! https://www.getty.edu/visit/gettycenter_map_2012.pdf The admission is free at the Getty Center – and the parking is $15. If you would like to find someone to carpool with, you can follow this link. https://www.prepatrip.com/t/n29bx5 Here you can add your car to find riders or add yourself as a rider looking for a ride.
