One of the things Trail Dames does is give back to the community. This can be providing trail magic, doing trail maintenance or in this case, hiking shelter dogs. Pet Placement Center is Chattanooga's only true no kill shelter. By taking the dogs for a hike we are helping to socialize them and make them more adoptable helping them find their forever homes. We will meet at Pet Placement Center and then caravan over to Reflection Riding at the base of Lookout Mtn. We will transport the dogs in our own vehicles. Bring an old sheet or towels to cover your back seat. We will then take the dogs on hike of about 3 miles. Then bring them back to the shelter. Please check out Pet Placement Center on the web or Facebook. If you are in a position to do so - they have a wish list of items that the shelter needs. Any donations are greatly appreciated. One continual need - paper towels. Please note, no personal dogs on this hike please - this one is for the Pound Puppies! Let's go to lunch afterwards.
This 3.2 mile hike is a beautiful hike located on the Cumberland Plateau. The trail is well maintained & marked. It would be considered a Trail Dames hike based on length & difficulty. The trail has ups & downs but nothing very steep. Some of the trail is rocky. There is a swimming hole at the base of the falls. Bring 2 liters of water, snacks, hiking poles. Wear sturdy shoes. You may want some water shoes/sandals if it is warm enough to take a dip. There will be a carpool from Chattanooga. There will be a stop at the Dutch Maid Bakery in Tracy City before the hike. This is the oldest family owned bakery in TN! Afterwards we can go grab a bite to eat at the Mountain Goat Market in Monteagle, TN
