Stroll and a Brunch - Five Rivers Environmental Center (~2.3 Miles)
Join us for a gentle fall hike! This is a perfect hike for those Dames that have never hiked before, need a nice slow stroll, and/or are recovering from an injury. Really this hike is perfect for anyone wanting a casual walk in nature. Trail Description: We will be adventuring clockwise on the North loop (Plan A) or doing the Service Road loop w/Vlomankill Trail (Plan B) depending on weather. The terrain is a mix of pavement, grass, wood chips, gravel and dirt paths. The elevation gain is minimal but there are a few small hills. This is a location rich with wildlife, especially birds. There are lots of spots to enjoy the scenery. For more trail Information: http://www.dec.ny.gov/education/1835.html What to Bring: A positive attitude!!! WATER...hydration is important and a regular water bottle is perfect for this hike. FOOD...snacks like fruit, nuts, trail mix. BACKPACK (optional)...packed with the 10 essentials (see the tab "more" then click on "files"). APPROPRIATE CLOTHING...jacket, moisture wicking clothes, a hat/sunscreen and no jeans. Dress for being outside in the NY spring environment. FOOTWEAR: hiking boots/shoes strongly recommended, but sneaker will work. Waterproof is advisable due to potential for mud. HIKING POLES: recommended to get used to using them on other hikes. BE PREPARED FOR THE MUD if it has been raining!!! Directions/Parking Info: Please put the provided address in your GPS app or device. If you don't have access to one, please contact me via private message and I will help you find your way to the hike. We will meet in front of the buildings. Cancelation Policy: We will go rain or shine (hopefully shine)! If there is a need to cancel or reschedule, it will be done by 8am on Sunday morning. Please, update your RSVP if it changes. I will always send out an email the night before the hike, so please read it for any updates. Who Can Attend? Reminder, the Trail Dames are for women 18+. Please leave young humans and humans of the male variety at home. Also, please leave dogs/animals at home. Post Hike Plans: For those of you wishing to partake in brunch, we will head to the Capital City Diner for brunch afterward. Please try to bring cash for brunch. Here is the menu: http://www.pilarinoshospitalitygroup.com/menu2.html The Trail Dames practice Leave No Trace. Laura will provide a brief overview at the beginning of the hike. For more information: https://lnt.org (https://lnt.org/) Questions? Please message me here on meetup. No question is too silly to ask. Can't wait to laugh and chat with you on the trail! ~Laura

What we're about

Trail Dames is hiking club for women of a curvy nature. However, all women are welcome! The Dames are a group of women who are looking for a chance to get out and see the beauty that this world has to offer. We hike slowly, enjoying every second, because we know that it is not the destination that is important, but the journey. And when we reach the top of every mountain, you will find us doing the "Dance of the Real Woman" and celebrating the life that is in us all!
