Join us for the 10th annual backpack seminar at Tyee Lodge on Mt. Hood where we'll hear exciting presentations from world class backpackers, see the latest lightweight gear and make new friends with other backpackers! There will be great food and door prizes too!
Our current speakers are:
Lisa Holmes will give a presentation on "Trip Planning 101 for Weekend Warriors:, with tips for on planning short backpacking trips. Topics will include permits, routes, itineraries, maps, GPS apps, safety plans and more. Lisa is the author/designer of, "I Heart Oregon" (& "Washington"), "25 of the Portland Area's Best Hikes" and "I Heart Oregon's Seven Wonders".
Erin Saver who has spent the last year touring the world on backpacks. She is a very informative speaker and entertaining. She will be presenting two one hour talks, one on Tasmania and one on the Pyrenees.
Whitney LaRuffa, president of the NW Long Distance Hiking Association, will speak. He finished the Continental Divide Trail last year. He has completed the Appalachian Trail and will start the Pacific Crest Trail in the next year or two.
Ron Moak of Six Moon Designs will display his light weight tents, backpacks and umbrellas. He will set them up for anyone who would like to try them out for the night. We will have cooks Karen and Roger Anderson.
The $60 fee includes lunch Saturday thru lunch Sunday. To register you must pay on Pay Pal. We will have tent sites and bunks. When you register let me know when you plan to arrive and if you are tent camping or dorm sleeping.
We open the lodge on Friday at noon. If you spend Friday night add on an extra $15 if a member and $25 if a non-member.
Parking will be determined by snow level. If snow level is low and we are able to drive up West Leg road. There is parking for 20 cars in our parking lot. We are also allowed to park along West Leg Road with snow park permits. If snow is present we will need to park 1/4 mile up Timberline road in parking area on right side of road. All extra cars will be parked at maintenance area at base of Timberline road. Snow park permits will be required. I will have someone to meet and greet new comers as needed at 9:00 Saturday Morning on Timberline road at pull out/parking area on right side of road. • Personal toiletries, including washcloth & towel
We wholeheartedly welcome potential members and guests to join us this weekend. For those that are interested in becoming a member of Trails Club, there will be a membership hike led by Paul Cutter on Sunday. Joining in on the hike and visiting Tyee lodge will qualify you to become a Trails Club member. A separate Meetup event will be scheduled for you to sign up at.
We will be having two membership hikes from Tyee. One on Saturday to Hidden Falls and one on Sunday from 9:30 to 1:00 on Sunday. These hikes led by Paul Cutter.
