Nesika Restoration Planning Meeting At Tyee Lodge: Oct. 6th-8th
Details
As most of you know we have lost our two dorms at Nesika to the Eagle Creek fire -- and much more. We have not been able to get in to inventory our property. The main lodge survived and we have a gravel trailer. We're hoping we have the generator as it is in a brick building with a cement fireproof roof on top. We should have our water lines to at least the upper Southeast corner of the lodge. Power may have to be rerouted.
Our goal at this meeting is to get input from members and potential new members on the restoration of Nesika. We are open to alternative ideas. This is a hiking club. We are looking for volunteers to sign up to assist with decision making and the rebuilding project. At our board meeting it was determined that the number one priority will be the road and checking on the water and electric system to include shutting off the water and draining the pipes for the winter.
We'll also be seeking donations for the rebuilding project. The club is in contact with the Forest Service, the Gorge Commission and The Trails Keepers of Oregon. They have been contacted to send a representative to this meeting for input. We will have board members present to answer questions.
The lodge will open at noon on Friday. We will provide free lodging and meals for Saturday Lunch thru Sunday Lunch. This takes the place of two of our canceled work trips at Nesika. If you would like to come in Friday please bring your own food for Friday night and Saturday morning.
Please bring your ideas and questions. Please help us restore Nesika. We expect a large crowd will be joining us, based on the outpouring of support we have received from our Trails Club members and the community. We are not limiting attendance but we only have 22 bunks for women and 22 bunks for men. This means that after these are filled we will offer tent camping only.
Provided at the Lodge will be:
• Heated facilities, hot water
• Overnight bunk style lodging with mattresses (you also have the option to tent camp if you prefer)
• Saturday Lunch & Dinner, Sunday Breakfast & Lunch
• Showers & restrooms
• Coffee, tea, lemonade
Please bring:
• Sleeping bag
• Meals and snacks outside of those included
• Personal toiletries, including washcloth & towel
We wholeheartedly welcome potential members and guests to join us this weekend. For those that are interested in becoming a member of Trails Club, there will be a membership hike led by Jeff Lawton and Raya Budrevich. Joining in on the hike and visiting Tyee lodge will qualify you to become a Trails Club member. A separate Meetup event will be scheduled for you to sign up at.
Thanks so much,
Glen Conrad, Nesika Restoration Committee Chair
