Stanley Mountain (12,521') in lieu of La Plata Peak

Details
NOTE NEW STARTING TIME 7:00AM. We’ll hike Stanley Mountain instead of La Plata due to the weather forecast. If this changes your plans, please update your RSVP.
Argh! The forecast in the mountains just doesn’t look good for Sunday morning (70% cloud cover, 30%-50% chance of rain/thunder esp. as noon approaches), and I’ve noticed other hikes have been canceled. The best alternative I have is Stanley Mountain. The trailhead, which is near the Henderson Mine off of C40 on the way to Berthoud Pass and Winter Park, is a relatively short drive from Denver. We’ll have great views on the way up and at the top. All but the last ¾ mile to the summit is below tree line, so we should be safe from thunder if the forecast is worse than expected. And, you don’t have to get up as early!
Moderate to Advanced
Distance: Approx. 7 miles RT Elevation Gain: Approx. 2300’
Pace: Moderate to moderately-fast.
Pre-Meet: We’ll meet at the Wooly Mammoth PNR near Section GG at 7:00am. If you want to meet us somewhere else, please email me. Extras: BRING YOUR TEN ESSENTIALS, including snacks and PLENTY OF WATER. Bring rain gear just in case and come prepared for any weather condition. Plan to reimburse drivers for gas money. We should be back to PNR by mid-afternoon.
