A State Bank for Maine?

  • Needs a date

  • Curtis Memorial Library

23 Pleasant Street, Brunswick, ME (map)

    43.913540 -69.967255

  • There are way too many holes in the bucket! Come hear Representative Diane Russell (D-Portland) speak about how a State Bank can help keep our money in Maine - money that can fund local business and reduce our taxes.

The people of North Dakota have such a bank and it has increased investment in the state and earned money from the interest income. Is this a good idea for Maine? We think so.

    Ms. Russell will discuss:

    • how a state bank works

    • the bill she has introduced in the state legislature

    • the nature of opposition of the large national banks, and what we can do to overcome that opposition

Note: This event is Co-sponsored by Occupy Maine Bath/Brunswick * PeaceWorks * Maine WILPF * Merrymeeting Greens *Merrymeeting Resilience

    So exciting!

Hi, This presentation was excellent. A great concept. I would like to see a talk here in Portland at a large venue, multiple sponsors. I am thinking of when Rob Hopkins was here, all those faces. And this is one logical next step.
    Happy to help arrange.
Diane Russell is down to Earth, fighting for the people. The North Dakota State Bank has been a huge success. It is not in competition with local banks, rather helps them to thrive, keeping the money in state, out of B of A's dirty hands- where much of our Maine tax revenues are held.

Thanks for posting! I would support that anyway that I can. Do you have Diane's contact info? I am happy to connect you if you like.

    Hope the date works out.
Investing locally, and access to reasonable loans can be a major step in our movement toward living community.
