Announcing a new Meetup for Transition Towns Minneapolis/St. Paul!

What: Urban Beekeeping - $25 with Permaculture Res. Inst.
When: Saturday, May 12,[masked]:00 AM

Where: Martin Luther King Park
4055 Nicollet Ave. S
Minneapolis, MN 55409

Saw this and had to feature it, FYI. YOU MUST REGISTER WITH AND PAY FEE DIRECTLY TO THE PERMACULTURE RESEARCH INSTITUTE!! [They are a 501(c)3 nonprofit.]

Their site says, "Become one with the hive mind by learning the basics of beekeeping. One of the oldest agricultural practices, beekeeping is more important than ever today, as honey bees suffer the effects of Colony Collapse Disorder.

"Learn basic honey bee biology, about honey bee breeds, standard colony behavior, and basic seasonal hive management. Look at hive parts, beekeeping tools and visit a working urban apiary. Get a feel for the creatures responsible for pollinating our crops and taste fresh urban honey in this brief introductory class.

"Instructor Jacquelynn Goessling has been a beekeeper for six years, running United Nectar, LLC, an urban apiary in Minneapolis. She tends nearly twenty hives through her backyard Hive Host program which rewards home owners for their interest in bees with honey from their own yards.
"Jacquelynn is a graduate of the University of MN’s Beekeeping Short Course (1997), a member of the Minnesota Hobby Beekeepers Association and also has hives in SE Minnesota’s Houston County.
"Class will be held rain or shine - reimbursements are not provided due to weather conditions. This workshop includes outdoor elements, so please come prepared. Bring what you need to feel comfortable, i.e. water, good shoes for walking or standing, sunscreen, raincoat, etc. Hope to see you there! 9 - 11 AM"
Again, I am not attending. This is FYI.

Check it out!
