Details

Metro Hack Night is a show & tell of Metro-related apps and data visualizations. Our focus will be on the impact of the new Silver Line. Doors open at 6:00 with pizza and drinks, and the presentations start at 6:30.

• Matt Makai (https://twitter.com/mattmakai) will show how Twilio (https://www.twilio.com/) can be used to do awesome stuff with transit APIs.

• Michael Eichler (https://twitter.com/PlanItMichael) will share visualizations he made for the PlanItMetro blog (http://planitmetro.com/) and talk about the Metro Payment Pilot (http://mpp.wmata.com/).

• Justin Antos (https://twitter.com/jdantos) will share some of his own visualizations he has made for the PlanItMetro blog (http://planitmetro.com/).

• Matt Johnson (https://twitter.com/tracktwentynine) will show us his interactive Metro map (http://greatergreaterwashington.org/post/24359/metro-has-eleven-types-of-station-architecture-learn-them-all-with-this-one-interactive-map/) of station architectures.

• Morgana Carter (https://twitter.com/_oneunit) and Maggie Criqui (https://twitter.com/maggiecriqui) will demo a Python hack that tells them when to leave the house to take Metro to a Nats game.

• Steven Fleming (http://www.stee.vn/) will show how he created his own version of the Metro web/mobile app.

• Michael Lloyd (http://www.researchgate.net/profile/Michael_Lloyd) will show how he used R to graph all stations' total entrances and exits (http://www.reddit.com/r/washingtondc/comments/2u9ez9/station_by_station_total_number_of_entrance_black/) for one month.

• Daniel Abrams (https://twitter.com/wend_io) of MassLight (http://masslight.com/) will show an animated simulation of the metro bus system that he built using data from the Metro API.

• Scott Norcross of MetroMinder (http://metrominder.com/) will show us their performance heatMaps.

• Michael Schade (http://mvjantzen.com/) will show animations of WMATA's most recent data release.

To build your own Metro visualizations, find WMATA's open data via PlanItMetro's data-download (http://planitmetro.com/tag/data-download/) tag, or use their developer tools (http://developer.wmata.com/). Send Michael Schade (https://www.meetup.com/Transportation-Techies/members/10550542) an email if you'd like to present.
