What we're about

A really warm welcome to Travel Buddies!

We are a small independent company that specializes in bespoke group travel as we feel experiences are better shared and there is so much to gain from travelling together.

We started up in 2013 and have 4 groups in the UK which meet for social events, the chance to meet other members, get involved and talk travel.

We plan trips all over the world, from weekends away in Europe to long haul trips in far off destinations, and have had amazing experiences worldwide whilst making great new friends and sharing unforgettable moments together.

If its adventure that you crave, culture, relaxation or doing something completely different there are trips to suit every type of traveller and every budget.

4 Nights in Valencia & La Tomatina Festival. "The Worlds Biggest Tomato Fight"

Needs a location

£369.00

THIS TRIP IS NOW FULL WITH AN AMAZING 23 TRAVEL BUDDIES.

Hi Travel Buddies, We wanted to let you know that we have 7 different groups so the numbers you see responding to the number of attendees are correct. Members from other groups are added as a +1 of the host. They aren't made up numbers so please do go ahead and book in confidence that the trip will be going ahead. Emma 🙂

Join Travel Buddies & Bristol Social Drinks Meet-up as we travel to Valencia for a sunny, relaxing and fun filled few days in Valencia staying a few minutes walk away from Valencia's most popular social district.

Valencia’s port and Malvarrosa Beach area is a lively spot to drink, dine and dance in the bars and clubs sprinkled along the seafront. The area really buzzes during the summer months when people pack onto rooftop bars and terraces to unwind in the sea breezes.

The highlight of this trip without doubt is something that we have wanted to do arrange for the group for ages and never got around to. After speaking to many members about it, it seems that there are many of us that have heard about this and would love to go, so It looks like this is the year to do it. Yes, we are going to La Tomatina Festival to take part in the Worlds biggest tomato fight.

Day 1. Monday 29th August.
Upon arrival in Valencia we will take our private transfer to the Sol Playa Valencia which is a 2 minute walk from Playa De Las Arenas Beach and a few minutes from Malvarossa beach. Bus and tram stops are within a 5-minute walk making it easy to reach the city centre. You can walk to the City of Arts in 30 minutes. the hotel has wifi and there are a great selection of restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk. We will be sharing twin rooms with en-suite. A single room (with single bed) is available for a supplement of £60 for the 4 nights. Be sure to let us know if you would like a room to yourself when you RSVP as they are limited. The supplement is due at the same time as the balance.

After arrival at our hotel we will all check in and have time to freshen up before a welcome evening party at one of the bars on the lively beach front where we can meet the other members of the group and get to know each other.

Day 2. Tuesday 30th August.

Today is a free day, the hotel is a 2 minute walk to the beach where you can soak up those rays. There are water sports offered nearby for the adrenalin junkies amongst us and plenty of places to eat and drink along the beachfront.

If you fancy treating yourself then take a look at this gorgeous place.

The Marina Beach Club is just an 8 minute walk from the hotel.

Here you can hire a hammock at either the beach of pool area and spend the day relaxing like a VIP. Hammocks cost around 103 euros per person for the day and that price includes a 50 Euro spend on drinks, a towel and a sun umbrella. It really is pure indulgence.
Book yours here.....

Day 3. Wednesday 31st August. THE DAY WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR !!!!

Its up and out early to take the 30 minute walk to the station in Valencia where we board a coach that will take us Bunol to take part in the "Worlds Greatest Tomato Fight"

At around 11am many trucks haul the bounty of tomatoes into the centre of the town, Plaza del Pueblo. The tomatoes come from Extremadura, where they are less expensive. Technically the festival does not begin until one brave soul has climbed to the top of a two-story high, greased-up wooden pole and reached the coveted ham at the top. In practice this process takes a long time and the festival starts despite no one reaching the meaty prize. The signal for the beginning of the fight is firing of water cannons, and the chaos begins. Once it begins, the battle is generally every man for himself.

After an one hour the fighting ends. At this point, no more tomatoes can be thrown. The cleaning process involves the use of fire trucks to spray down the streets, with water provided from a Roman aqueduct. The authorities seem more concerned with cleaning the town than cleaning the visitors, so some people find water at the Bunol River to wash themselves, although some kind residents will hose passers-by down. Once the tomato pulp is flushed, the ground is clean due to the acidity of the tomato.

Top tips for the day.

  • Wear old clothes or clothes that you do not intend on wearing again :)
  • Wear shoes with a decent grip that can be thrown later but kept on your feet. Avoid using flip-flops; you can lose them in the tomato fight.
  • Goggles are the key accessory. Your eyes can be sore because of the tomato acid.
  • If you want to take pictures, (well of course we do)! use waterproof cameras or just use a protective case.
  • Follow the security directions and keep a safe distance of the lorries.
  • Do not miss the “palo-jabón’’. A soap-covered pole with a Spanish ham on the top. The person who climbs to the top and gets the ham…wins the ham!
  • And last but not least, enjoy to the max. It is a pleasure to release adrenaline throwing tomatoes in all directions during an hour.

After the tomato fight and getting cleaned up we will stay for live music and enjoy a party before taking the transfer bus back to Valencia between 15.00 and 16.00.

Day 4. Thursday 1st September.

Today is a free day so get yourself down to the beach for some more sun of if you are feeling like you want to explore Valencia you can take the bus, or even walk in to the city. There are always other members that fancy doing the same so no one is ever one their own, unless they choose to be. :)

In the evening we unwind and relax on a sunset catamaran cruise on the Mediterranean Sea and toast our adventures in Valencia with an included glass of cava.

Day 5. Friday 2nd September.

This morning we will be able to check out and leave our luggage at the hotel securely and have the rest of the day to enjoy the sun, beach and Valencia before taking the private transfer to the airport at around 17.00

TRIP NOW FULL! :)

Join Travel Buddies for fresh air, peace and quiet, greenery and wildlife, simplicity and a slower pace of life on this 4 night 5 day trip. The Montenegrin mountains offer the perfect opportunity to escape the humdrum and madness of everyday normality. Wake up in a little shepherds hut on the side of a mountain and get to try some hearty Montenegrin food.

Don a bee keepers hat for a visit and tour around a local honey farm and try the different flavours of honey. Journey through the mountains by boat to places so unspoiled it feels like no-one has ventured there for thousands of years. With a night on the beautiful Adriatic Coast included, there’s even time for some rest and relaxation by the water.

Kotor is drop-dead gorgeous from every angle. Within the city walls, locals sip strong coffee at pavement cafes and queue for warm bread at the bakers amid a dreamy maze of alleys and plazas; beyond them, the mountain-encircled, fjordlike bay of the same name is one of the most photogenic spots in all of Europe.
