Details

On March 21, Code for Chapel Hill, Town of Chapel Hill, and CHCCS are hosting a Civic Data Hackathon. We hosted this event last year, and it was a great opportunity for the community to develop civic tech projects and also for employees of multiple surrounding cities and counties to collaborate on projects with the Chapel Hill and regional communities.

Civic Data Hackathon

The Civic Data Hackathon is a hackathon open to the public that focuses on the use of publicly available datasets to address community needs. From topics of Affordable Housing to Environmental Impact/Sustainability, the projects have an impact on the local communities and governmental agencies. The morning will start with a short keynote presentation followed by public pitches for projects. At that point, participants will be guided by the projects that interest them. There will be a number of hours to address the project with an afternoon share out.

Mentor Program

In addition to the work developed on the March 21 hackathon event, we are expanding the event to a week/10-day prior Mentor project supplied by the topic-knowledgeable Town of Chapel Hill partner. We are promoting that up to the start of March 16 at which point the Mentor program will not be available. This is a great opportunity for students and community members to support the Town and possibly develop a portfolio piece.
