I get it. Meetup groups can be hit or miss sometimes. You want to join a group, but you also want to be able to share interests with people of similar ages. Being new to town doesn't make things any easier, and on the other hand - maybe you've been in the area for years and are looking to try something new or different.

My goal for the group is to be a fun, friendly, respectful, and open. Disrespectful or unsolicited-ly creepy language or behavior towards ANYONE regardless of gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, cultural practices, etc. will simply not be tolerated.

Our meetups are as random as varied as fun can be, including comedy club outings, movie nights, restaurant and bar nights, game nights, festivals, museums, concerts, shows, flash mobs, brewery tours, sporting events (spectator and participant) - whatever the group may be in the mood to do.

I'd like to plan events all over the RTP area, but the initial focus will be in Cary since that's where I live (long story). Yes, Cary has the "bad" rep of being the "safe and bland" town, which is partially (ok, maybe mostly) true. However, after spending most of my adult life in all parts of Chicago with a one year pit stop in Milwaukee as one of the organizers of the Milwaukee Fun Meetup Group, we'll try to get you out of your comfort zone (gasp, maybe into the artsy part of Durham) while still having events where you feel most at home.

As the group (hopefully) grows, we'll add events that are family/kid friendly, but for now - let's plan on enjoying time without having to cut up food into small pieces, visually scan the room every 10 seconds, or starting a sentence with "What did I just say?" (you may have to do that anyway though, ha).

A few house rules:

- Discriminatory, disrespectful, and hateful language and behavior towards ANY person will not be tolerated. It doesn't matter if he or she looks different from you, acts differently, smells differently, prays differently (if at all), eats differently, loves differently, etc.
- When there are events where alcohol is served, no one there is your butler, maid, or parents. Come prepared with a designated driver, be prepared to call a taxi, or even better - just know your own limits and don't even cross that line. I personally don't, and others probably don't, have the time or the resources to put up with this type of tomfoolery. We're there to have a good time, not watch you make a total ass of yourself.
- Do NOT use this Meetup group to contact someone outside of the purposes of the group unless you have that person's consent. For example, of course you can reach out to others to see if you can carpool or to see if they want to split a cab. However, unsolicited e-mails through meetup advertising your business (or more likely, asking for a date) without the receiving party's consent is not ok.
- This group has a no-show policy as follows: if you RSVP "yes" to an event and do not change your RSVP to "no" at least one (1) hour before the scheduled start time of the event, you will receive a friendly reminder. If you do a second time, it will still be a friendly, but more stern, reminder. Three strikes you're out.
