Talk: Improving user value through Machine Learning

Details

"Improving user value through Machine Learning" by Håkon Weløy Aarseth

Netflix’s recommendation algorithm is responsible for two out of every three hours of streamed video, while Spotify delivers 75 million customised mixtapes to its users every week. Airbnb uses machine learning to suggest what is the best listing price for their hosts.

The promise of software that automatically solves difficult tasks and improves with experience is the dream of any product manager, but technology by itself does not create value. Product managers need to understand the underlying mechanisms of both machine learning and the value proposition of the company if they want to create value for the user through technology. This talk investigates how machine learning can be used to improve the user value of two-sided marketplaces.

"Evolving Neural Networks for Cross-adaptive Audio Effects" by Iver Jordal

A short talk about how genetic algorithms can be used to build and train neural networks, and how these neural networks can be applied to create novel audio effects.

Both talks will be in English.

Food and soft drinks will be provided (thanks, DEFA!)
