No bugs. No time. No pain. Declaring your app in Elm

No bugs. No time. No pain. Declaring your app in Elm. - Dennis Snell

Join us to discuss Elm with our very own Dennis Snell. Why Elm? The Elm architecture is a direct inspiration for many popular paradigms such as Flux, Redux, and describing components hierarchies with Functions.

As usual expect great conversation and an open format. If you have a lightning talk about something you are interested in or have been working on, feel free to talk about it! We love hearing from every member.

Note, this will be our first Meetup in the post-elegant-thought world. Until we find a more permanent location, we are holding meetups in the CoLab workspace. However, we will still provide snacks and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic).

Hope to see you all there!

I would like to ask all of you who are planning on attending to respond to this comment here and answer the the following question: what are the biggest pain points you have with Javascript and with React? What frustrates you and what do you wish were done better?

Also, if you are willing, please write in advance questions you might have about Elm.

This will help me to prepare a specialized dedicated personalized experience for y'all :)

Two things I'd like to see: 1) example of secure token-based authentication for REST API calls, and 2) how to create --components-- err, well, the Elm guide says (boldly) that "We do not think in terms of reusable components. Instead, we focus on reusable functions." So I'd like to learn how to create "reusable functions" that leverage the myriad components being created by others with more way more HTML/JS/CSS skill than me.

One more bonus point: "What are Elm flaws?" -- seriously, nothing is perfect, so give us the raw Truth about what could be "improved" b/c we can handle it. ;-)

Sorry, I just realized this is at the same time as my son's band concert.

Was really looking forward to it though, hopefully we can have more Elm-themed events in the future!
