Talk: Scala is a multi-paradigm programming language that has a powerful type system, similar to Haskell. Scala was created to help bridge the gap between the Object Oriented world of Java and the Functional world. Due to its combining of the OO and FP paradigms and its ability to inter-operate with Java and JavaScript, it can server as a good introductory language to FP while at the same time letting giving you the leeway to still get stuff done.
