A Story and Call for Volunteers, from TCRC Meetup

Hey Climbers,

This is Jeremy, Andrew, and Logan.  I recently got an email from Logan along with this picture.  I'd like to share Logan's email with you.

Hey Sean, I just got back from a 5 day trip to the Black Hills with two other Meetup members and felt the need to say thank you!

When I first joined this group I tried to start about seven different backpacking-climbing trips and only one of the trip ideas ended in success. Since becoming an organizer my trip ideas have been so popular that I have continually ran into the dilemma of not having enough room in my car for everyone.

Jeremy, Andrew, and I had never met prior to my Black Hills trip idea on Meetup. After climbing together a few times before the trip started I knew it was going to be wonderful; and it was. Jeremy and Andrew both climbed their first multipitch routes, Andrew learned how to clean trad gear, I led my first X rated route, Jeremy climbed his first trad lead, and I now have a new favorite summit. So thank you very much for making me an organizer as it has given me and many other Meetup members great stories of adventure that we will never forget.

This kind of story is exactly why I keep working with the Twin Cities Rock Climbing Meetup Group and a great example of what you can get out of this group, if you want to.

The TCRC Meetup Group is continuously in need of new people that really want to meet other new people in a climbing setting.  Whether it is in a gym or outside, this group relies on people just like you to keep events happening and to keep new climbers finding their way in this great adventure.

Currently, we are lacking hosts for some of our regular Monday and Thursday night open climbing events at VE.  Maybe it is time to rethink how we organize ourselves.  I'm not sure.

If you would like to volunteer to be a host for open climbing nights at VE, email me.  If you would like to become an event organizer, like Logan, email me.  If you have an idea for a Meetup that you would like to see happen, use the Suggest a Meetup button on the site's home page.

Don't wait around for climbing opportunities to come to you.  Go out and make your own adventure.  People are sure to come along with you.

On that note, I'd like to offer another big THANK YOU! to Matt Holland, who took it upon himself to organize large group events at Blue Mounds, Devil's Lake, and the North Shore this season, along with several day trips to Taylors Falls.  Matt made a huge impact on a lot of new and experienced climbers this year and donated proceeds from his efforts back to the TCRC Meetup checking account.

Be like Matt.  Email me to find out more about how you might volunteer with this group.
