Visualizing the Shape of Data
-------------------------------------------
I have been using topological data analysis to visualize the 'shape' of high-dimensional data sets for a few years now, but there has been a lot of development of packages for this type of visualization in both R and Python. We will look at some examples of topological visualizations of health and financial data sets using both R and Python, comparing visualization strengths and weaknesses. -
Genome Browser Data Visualization Pattern
--------------------------------------------------------------
The genome browser data visualization pattern has been used in the field of biological sciences for many years. Data of various types are arranged in parallel tracks aligned to a reference, modeled as a 1-dimensional coordinate system. As our understanding of biology improves, is this model still useful?
