💡 Speaker One:Max Alexander, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer, Ditto
Title of Talk:
Bringing Kafka to the Edge and BackAbstract:
Kafka has become a beloved project and protocol to get data between cloud systems but in this talk we discover how we can extend the edge like web, mobile, industrial loT and robotics apps to send data to Kafka and ultimately your Al, ML and Big Data systems. We will also show use cases your business can build incredibly resilient but data rich products in the physical world while collecting information in the cloud such as Point of Sale systems for retail, management and maintenance systems for transportation, aviation and manufacturing as well as autonomous robots for the edge systems of the future.Bio:
Max Alexander is the Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Ditto, a developer platform that allows apps to sync data with and even without an internet connection. Max believes that the best apps are the ones that can talk to each other at the edge as well as seamlessly connect edge to analytics and big data platforms with minimal configuration.***
💡 Speaker Two:Jorge Trujillo, Principal Software Engineer, Chewy
Title of Talk:
Connecting Pets, Products and People Using Apache Kafka at ChewyAbstract:
Chewy is the largest dedicated online pet supplies retailer in the United States, and focuses on meeting all pet parents’ needs as well as providing amazing customer service. As Chewy grows, it has become more distributed in terms of its service architecture, and efficient inter-service communication is becoming more critical. This talk will explore how we introduced Apache Kafka into the Chewy environment, how we enabled clients to easily onboard onto a centralized cluster through simple configuration, and how we are enabling it to function at enterprise scale. By the end, you will hopefully have some ideas of how to bring Kafka to your organization and make it accessible to all teams that want to use it.Bio:
Jorge is a Principal Software Engineer at Chewy, where he focuses on content authoring, content delivery, user segmentation and experimentation. These solutions use Apache Kafka extensively to drive inter-service communication as well as broadcast updates to the enterprise. Jorge is a huge fan of the capabilities Kafka brings to the enterprise, and is a huge proponent of it as an open source platform does not lock companies into proprietary solutions. Outside of work, he loves spending time with his family, geeking out over tech and video games, and Nordic skiing, which keeps him sane living in the Twin Cities.***
