Speaker 1:
Luke Gesior

Bio:
Luke Gesior has been deploying and operating Kafka at scale since 0.8, offering Kafka as a service to application and infrastructure teams in two fortune 50's. Now that Kafka 1.0 has been released, and log compaction doesn't break daily, he focuses on building the tools and automation that allow large organizations to embrace Kafka as a streaming solution.

Title:
Kafka as a service

Abstract:
In his talk Luke will walk through his journey offering Kafka as a service in data centers, public clouds, and hybrid cloud environments. He'll walk through the architecture, toolsets, CI/CD pipelines, and of course, the most difficult part of running multi-tenant Kafka clusters, how to deal with the users.

Speaker 2:
Mitchell Henderson, Confluent

Bio:
Mitch Henderson is a Sr. Technical Account Manager for Confluent. Mitch’s background is rooted in DevOps roles mostly focused on inserting new technologies into the enterprise. Before joining Confluent Mitch was a field engineer at DataStax and played integral roles at Thompson Reuters and CenturyLink where he built large-scale deployments, planned auditing services, and was a key player doing financial data delivery with a focus on quality, maintainability, stability and scalability.

Title:
KSQL for Apache Kafka

Abstract:
The rapidly expanding world of stream processing can be daunting, with new concepts such as various types of time semantics, windowed aggregates, changelogs, and programming frameworks to master.

KSQL is an open-source, Apache 2.0 licensed streaming SQL engine on top of Apache Kafka which aims to simplify all this and make stream processing available to everyone. Benefits of using KSQL include: No coding required; no additional analytics cluster needed; streams and tables as first-class constructs; access to the rich Kafka ecosystem. This session introduces the concepts and architecture of KSQL. Use cases such as Streaming ETL, Real Time Stream Monitoring or Anomaly Detection are discussed. A live demo shows how to setup and use KSQL quickly and easily on top of your Kafka ecosystem.
