Do you have a particular wine "memory" that you would like to share?

Wow, just thinking about this brings back so many cool memories. I think my favorite memory was in 1980 when I was touring Europe for a year. I was having dinner alone in a small town near the city of Bordeaux in SW France. A red nosed elderly man named 'Papi" (the French equivalent of 'Gramps') invited me to join him at his table. He had a dusty old bottle on his table, as if he'd been sitting there for many years. He was surprised to hear that I speak French so well and we started talking while we ate our dinner and enjoyed his 15 year old bottle of dense red Pomerol (Petrus). I told him my maternal Grampa came from an area of Bordeaux, just 10 kilometers away. After desert (mine) and when he finished his Galois cigarette he invited me back to his 'little place' to meet his family. The three story chateau on hundreds of hectares/acres, built in the mid 1880s was my place to say for the next week of my trip. We spent days in the vineyards and evenings in the kitchen and cellars.

Favorite local wine shop?

I like shopping at Hennepin Lake Liquors and their several samples of open wine every time. I stock up at Chicago Lake Liquors due their LOW prices. And sometimes I grab a bottle at my nearby 'The Wine Shop'

Best list at a local restuarant?

Clearly Spasso in Minnetonka on Minnetonka Blvd and Cty Rd 101. Not only do they price their ENTIRE wine list of 140 boles at RETAIL prices (i.e. the same price as the Wine Shop next door, no markup) but if I choose a wine next door at The Wine Shop they will pour it for me at Spasso with NO CORKAGE Fee.

Have you ever visited a vineyard, if so where? Which vineyard?

yes: Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Alsace, Medoc, etc in France. and MANY, many vineyards in Italy, Greece and Germany. I have toured Sonoma, Napa and the ALexander Valey too. And I have been to most of the Minnesota wineries, well those within 100 miles of the Twin Cities.

Favorite wine "find"?

My next one...
