Join us on this amazing 5 night / 6 day photo tour capturing some of the most stunning night-time landscapes that Norfolk has to offer!
In this workshop, weโll be making the most of the dark skies of Norfolkโs Coastal Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a beautiful protected landscape well known for its lack of light pollution, and boasting two official Dark Sky Discovery Sites.
During the evenings weโll explore multiple locations, such as the picturesque Happisburgh lighthouse, ruined churches, and windmills to search for stunning nightscape opportunities, including the Milky Way, star trails, as well as capturing some bonus sunsets using our sets of award-winning Kase filters (one available to each participant).
Weโll be staying in a spacious modern barn conversion, just 5 minutes from Happisburgh Lighthouse so we can quickly take advantage of clear skies (see feature image).
It wonโt just be the Milky Way weโll be hunting. On the workshop weโll be keeping an eye out for the elusive Noctilucent Clouds, extremely rare high clouds of ice crystals that are lit up to produce a spectacular blue/silver display in the night sky. These are only visible at certain latitudes and times of year โ and weโll be there at peak season! (see photos in gallery)
What weโll cover:
- Intro astrophotography equipment
- Apps used for planning
- How to focus at night
- Settings for correct exposure โ manual mode in astrophotography
- Effect of choosing different shutter speeds
- How to combat noise in astrophotography
- High ISO vs single shot with star tracker
- Use of star tracker
- Light pollution and filters
- Lighting our subjects at night (light painting)
- Editing our pictures using software (Lightroom Classic + plugins, but methods transferable to other software, plus free dedicated astro software)
Equipment to borrow!
To help our workshop participants capture great shots, we have a selection of lenses to borrow, including
- The highly regarded 14mm f/2.8 lenses for Canon EF mount, Nikon F mount, and Sony E mount.
- A star tracker that weโll set up and use to get longer exposures of the sky.
- Astro filters! - Kase Light pollution filter and Kase Star Glow filter.
This astrophotography workshop is a relaxed learning atmosphere and is suitable for beginner photographers with minimal equipment, or intermediate/advanced photographers. Participants will need to be able to change their settings in manual mode, such as shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.
๐๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฌ:
โข Return transport from London, & within Norfolk.
โข Accommodation - Beautiful barn conversion (self-catering, walking distance/short drive to lovely hotel restaurant, large Tescos short drive)
โข Professional photo guide
โข Kase filter sets available for each participant

Dear Lords, Ladies, and photographic squires!
Loxwood Joust, the U.K.'s most spectacular mediaeval festival, is back on again this year and we're going to practice some dramatic action photography!
This amazing extravaganza is held in the picturesque woodlands of West Sussex and features full-contact jousting, along with other daring displays of weaponry, including archery, muskets, and cannon fire as armoured knights and their retainers prepare to meet in great numbers for the melee on the thunderous battlefield, granting us many photographic opportunities.
You will also be able to "wander the Living History Village, situated in the Mediaeval Meadow, where inhabitants live and work exactly as they would have in the middle ages. Peruse their traditional wares in the Mediaeval Marketplace, where traders and hawkers vie for your attention and wandering minstrels, dance troupes, and a court jester entertains the crowds throughout the day." So a number of interesting and unusual portrait possibilities are available.
Close to 50 re-enactment groups take part in Loxwood Joust each year so it is on a scale unlike other mediaeval events.
Our previous photographic scouts scoured Loxwood for the best photographic opportunities and have devised battle tactics to enable you to capture some amazing shots!
Please note: There will be a maximum of 7 participants (plus photo guide) so get in early! The Loxwood Joust event ends around[masked] pm, so we expect to leave the event soon after and arrive back in central London around 7 pm.
๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ ๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ ๐๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ:
โข Telephoto lenses eg[masked]mm,[masked]mm,[masked]mm, etc (recommended if you have but we'll have multiple telephoto setups for you to borrow โ just bring a blank SD card).
โข Walkaround zoom (or kit) lens eg 18-55mm, 24-70mm (for environmental portraits and wide battlefield shots)
โข Monopods are permitted but likely not required unless bringing a heavy telephoto lens (we recommend handholding the camera). No tripods, please.
๐๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐๐๐:
Travel to and from central London (from Starbucks, Unit 1A Euston Tower, NW1 3DP), in our comfortable 8 seat vehicle, including photographic magazines to learn from and inspire en route
Entry ticket for Loxwood Joust
Photographic Tuition at event
Camera and telephoto lens setups available to borrow
Battery charging facilities if required (just bring your USB or wall plug charger)
๐๐จ๐ญ ๐ข๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐๐๐:
Food and drink
Anything not otherwise stated as included.
Note: Please dress for the weather. Hat, sunscreen, etc. It is England after all, so bring a light waterproof jacket/umbrella just in case and wear appropriate footwear for walking.
๐๐ก๐๐ซ๐ ๐ฐ๐โ๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐๐๐ญ:
We'll meet at Starbucks Coffee, Unit 1A Euston Tower Podium, Regents Place, London NW1 3DP, at 8.15 am and we'll talk about what to expect on the day and to go through previous photos of the event and discuss settings, composition, etc.
We'll be leaving Starbucks at 8.30 am.
Please make sure you check TFL to arrive at the meeting point on time as we will have to leave exactly at 8.30 am sharp. Unfortunately, due to having to purchase the tickets, refunds will unable to be given if you are late, hence our meeting time is a full 15 minutes before our departure. Please be sure you can attend before RSVPing yes, as refunds can only be given if your place is taken by another participant.
๐๐จ๐ญ๐: This event is combined with 2 other photography Meetup groups that I run so RSVP numbers such as myself +3 means 3 members from the other groups attending.
