Ralf Pieper - Introduction to Google Compute Engine and Hangouts

Details

Those lurking on the UUASC mail list have seen adhoc requests from one of our more active members Ralf Pieper to demonstrate the features of the Google Compute Engine in a Google Hangout, and for the November UUASC-LA we have put together a formal presentation.

The presentation will be held at the Media Temple facility in Culver City and Ralf will be presenting from his home in San Jose via Google Hangout, a Google Plus web based application which lets up to 10 users collaborate with live video and audio simultaneously,

We will have the hang out displayed on the overhead projector and two large screen displays with the audio run through the PA system. We will also be streaming a live feed via for additional remote viewers.

Once we have everything set up Ralf will be presenting an introduction to the Google Compute Engine which is designed for large scale computing on Linux virtual machines running on Google's infrastructure. Ralf's presentation includes an overview and a demonstration of launching instances and running applications.

The links for the hangout and the live stream will be posted on the UUASC main mail list just before the start of the event. Please join our general mail list if you haven't already. http://www.uuasc.org/general.html

Ralf Pieper has been working as a Linux SysAdmin for over a decade in several startups using Amazon Web Services, now he is exploring a new entry into the market while not using it at work.
