What we're about

Ours is an inclusive, welcoming group at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Winston-Salem. There is no cost to join, it’s open to everyone, and all ages and levels of experience are welcome. We like to get together to spend casual time outdoors camping, hiking, cycling, birding, paddling, (whew, and more!) — and in general simply enjoying nature's wonders firsthand as well as each other's company. We emphasize outdoor activities and events in order to enjoy, educate and engage our members and friends in environmental issues. We plan all different types of activities once per month all year round, and they can range anywhere from a simple stroll down the greenway, to overnight backcountry camping, to biking short sections of the Virginia Creeper Trail, or simply checking out edible plants on a short nature walk. Suggestions are happily accepted. Come with us and enjoy the fresh air, nature at its finest, AND a little bit of adventure!

SUBJECT: THE CONNECTION BETWEEN AGRICULTURE AND THE FOOD WE EAT - Discussion to Follow This feature-length documentary reveals the truth behind why Americans are so sick and what we can do about it. Medical experts and researchers discuss scientific reasons why we are so sick, who’s responsible for feeding us the wrong information and how we can use whole-food, plant-based nutrition to take control of our health—one bite at a time. A whole food, plant-based diet can not only prevent, but reverse a number of diseases. By eating nutrient dense whole foods, evidence proves we don't have to be as sick as we are. Avoiding consumption of animal-based products can decrease an individual's carbon footprint by 55%. A plant-based diet contributes the least amount of environmental harm than any other. Eating plant-based means that you are no longer turning a blind eye to the inhumane, dark and brutal slaughtering of 20,000 animals per minute in the U.S. alone. OUR MISSION IS TO EDUCATE AND EMPOWER! With knowledge, we can make positive environmental changes! FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! ALL ARE WELCOME! INVITE YOUR FRIENDS!!
