How to design for everyone.

Details

"As designers, it’s our responsibility to understand the power of the interactions we design for people. We design to embrace the things that make us human. It’s what drives us to create a world that makes lives better. The result is technology that’s inclusive."

Powerful words from Microsoft's Inclusive Design team which set the agenda for this meetup.

Inclusive design: what is it, and what does it demand of designers in today's software-saturated world.

GUEST AUTHOR

We are delighted to welcome Reginé Gilbert to UX Belfast.

Reginé is a New York based designer educator, public speaker and author. Reginé's first book, "Inclusive Design for a Digital World: Designing with Accessibility in Mind" was published in 2019, and immediately put Reginé on the map as a significant voice on inclusivity in design.

'Inclusive Design...' offers an ethical, moral, and legal case for inclusivity in design, as well as practical approaches and tools to bring inclusivity into the heart of our work.

Reginé will offer an overview of thinking and process detailed in the book, and will be available for questions on the night.

Find out more about Reginé at https://reginegilbert.com and follow her on Twitter @reg_inee.

GUEST SPEAKER

MT McCann is a designer with extensive experience in the field of UX. As leader of Ladies That UX Belfast, MT will be no stranger to anyone working in the local tech scene. She recently made a move from consulting into product design and is currently Head of UX at ESO.

MT has placed a major emphasis on improving awareness and implementation of accessibility in the software she helps to build. MT will give us an insight into how she has approached this challenge, and the results achieved so far.

You can follow MT on Twitter @busymumy or LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/mtmccann

CHARITY

As is customary, we have made donation to charity to thank our guests for their time. Reginé has selected America On Tech (AOT), an organisation that envisions a world where young people of colour across the US have equitable access to compete fairly for opportunities in the technology sector.
