Global Accessibility Awareness Day!

Details
Los Angeles Usability Professionals’ Association and LA PHP Meetup are delighted to announce a joint event, LA’s first Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). GAAD is a community-driven international effort initiated by LA’s own Joe Devon to increase awareness of digital (web, software, mobile app/device, touch screen kiosk, etc.) accessibility for people with disabilities.
Do you know how well the interfaces you design or build work for users with disabilities? Users browsing the web with accessibility devices are often frustrated by the barriers that we as designers & developers unknowingly put in their way. Our guest speakers will be:
Todd Kloots, Sr. Accessibility Engineer, Yahoo! Todd creates and teaches classes on accessibility for designers, engineers and product managers, and will illustrate how screen readers interpret web designs and the common obstacles they face. Victor Tsaran, Sr. Inclusive Design Program Manager, Yahoo! Victor, who is visually impaired, will outline the current state of accessibility on mobile devices and various mobile platforms. Zahir Herz, Sr. Web Developer at Fox Digital Media, will illustrate special screen enlargement technology that he uses for those with partial visual impairment. He will share a view into his work environment, and what he would like to see more of in mobile apps. Join us for this compelling exploration of what we can all do to make the digital world more inclusive and accessible.
