Uber Rider Engineering is in charge of building experiences for our rider app, and that includes a wide array of products for very different use cases and markets.

At this meetup, we will describe the common product development processes and technologies we use to create these products. We will also walk through case studies of the technologies underlying our Airports, Events, and Venues features as well as the new Uber Bus product.

This is a great opportunity to get a behind-the- scenes look at how we design and build products for our riders and a chance to get to know members of our engineering and product teams.

Agenda:

6:30PM - Lifecycle of projects at Uber with Examples from Events + Airports
6:45PM - Mobile at Uber - RIBs!

The Project Lifecycle for Building Features to Improve the Rider Experience at Events, Airports, and Venues - Jason Farnsworth

Transit into and out of airports and events is tricky. Learn about how we leverage Uber’s product development process to ensure we’re providing a safe, efficient, and comfortable experience for riders in these crowded pick-up environments.

Mobile Engineering at Uber - Alejandro Sanchez

What's Uber's not so secret weapon to building complex and scalable cross- platform apps? It’s RIBs, our open source mobile architecture framework ! Find out how a switch from an MVC-style architecture to the RIBs architecture enabled Uber to build cross-platform apps that scale in complexity and capability, for instance, enabling us to easily build features that facilitate more seamless pick-up locations at airports and events.

Uber Bus - Challenges and Technologies - Alex Perez, Michael Smith, Sky Lan

Uber has just launched a new bus product in Monterrey, Mexico and Cairo Egypt. This is a very different product and rider experience than we’ve previously tackled. We'll give an overview of the product, talk through the product’s design process and technical challenges, and walkthrough through how we're addressing them. We'll cover such topics as how we leverage our existing mapping technologies for Uber Bus routing and navigation to why we chose our protocol-driven approach to iOS development.

Note: We must collect your first and last name for security reasons prior to the event. You will also need to sign an NDA when entering the building.
