What we're about

Who we are:
What started out as a weekly frisbee pickup game has since turned into a city-wide collective of pickup games. Some locations have regular "leaders" who will show up to set up the field and organize game-play, while others are more informal meetings which are not associated with meetup events and instead are regulated on their own. However, as the Cleveland ultimate community continues to grow it is our goal to try and bring the game to as many prospective players as possible! Any game which is posted as an event on the meetup page will be run by a member of the meetup group and will be updated regularly. Any additional pickup games posted are run by an outside group of people not yet officially associated with the Meetup group as of this time. Know of another regularly occurring game in the greater Cleveland area? Let me know and I'll be happy to add it to the list!

Never played before?
Ultimate Frisbee (AKA Ultimate) is a sport played with a 175 gram flying disc. The object of the game is to score points by passing the disc to a player of your own team in the opposing end zone. Players may not run with the disc, and may only move one foot (pivot) while holding the disc. The possession of the disc will change teams as soon as one of the following happens: offence drops/misses the disc, offence catches it out-of-bounds, or the pass is intercepted/blocked by the defense.

Don't worry too much about rules and such, It's pretty easy to catch on as long as you know the basics. We're a very friendly and helpful group who love nothing more than to teach the game to beginners, so come check us out some time!

"The Cleveland Disc Association's MeetUp page is an opportunity for members of the Northeast Ohio Ultimate Community to organize their own pick-up games. These games are not organized, supervised, or directly sponsored by the Cleveland Disc Association, Inc., or it's board members or agents. Participants of these games are required to adhere to the local rules and regulations regarding the use of the fields and are responsible for any personal injuries or property damage that results from participating in the game."

If you miss circle, please see an organizer for a team assignment upon your arrival. ~ Organizers reserve the right to implement any adjustments needed based on attendance, behaviors and/or patterns of the players with the intention of keeping the game running smoothly, fair and most importantly fun for everyone. Feel free to come to any one of us with any questions or concerns on or off the field. Thanks and we look forward to seeing you! Ultimate in 10 simple rules The Field — A rectangular shape with endzones at each end. A regulation field is 64m by 37m, with endzones 18m deep. Initiate Play — Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their respective endzone line. The defense throws (“pulls”) the disc to the offense. A regulation game has seven players per team. Scoring — Each time the offense completes a pass in the defense’s endzone, the offense scores a point. Play is initiated after each score. Movement of the Disc — The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not run with the disc. The person with the disc (“thrower”) has ten seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower (“marker”) counts out the stall count. Change of possession — When a pass in not completed (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception), the defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense. Substitutions — Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score and during an injury timeout. Non-contact — No physical contact is allowed between players. Picks and screens are also prohibited. A foul occurs when contact is made. Fouls — When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs. When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone. Self-Refereeing — Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes. Spirit of the Game — Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.
