What we're about
We seek to create meetups in Denton, Frisco, and surrounding areas that allow members of UTH to experience social events on-site and in the community where they can meet new people and have the opportunity to improve their communication and social skills by interacting with each other as well as members of the community. At our meetups we want those that come (parents, young adults, children brought by a parent, etc.) to be able to experience the camaraderie that comes with being part of a group where you feel like you fit in, share common interests, and can relax and be honest with each other. Some of our meetups are strictly social to help facilitate the skill building aspect through real life experiences. Other meetups are more structured with a particular focus such as a topic in mind. All meetups are designed by our members through their needs and their wonderful suggestions.
United Through HOPE is local, with free standing sites in Frisco and Denton, but our meetups can and will occur around the metroplex. Some meetups are free, while others may have a "cover charge" to attend due to supervision needed for the children so parents can enjoy themselves too. Others may have an additional charge that is required by the location where the meetup is held like if we held a meetup at Painting With a Twist.
Our meetups are open to everyone but we will have you complete a series of questions so that we can help you find the best meetup for your family's particular needs.
At United Through Hope our philosophy is that skills should be taught globally in a naturalistic environment where practice leads to progress. Each of our activities are designed to foster self-confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging and empowerment, no matter what age (even parents and those above age 18 need those feelings)! All of our programs are meant to be fun with appropriate levels of support, as learning is supposed to be engaging. We recognize that parents and families play an integral role in development of an individual and our meetups are designed to facilitate that camaraderie.
To participate in our meetups, a family member does NOT have to have a formal diagnosis, just have a social need. Those with an identified issue or disability (such as AD/HD, Aspergers, autism, LD, intellectual or physical disability, anxiety, selective mutism, suffered from being bullied, feeling left out, etc.) can participate fully through appropriate levels of support. Anyone is welcome regardless of age, gender, race, challenges, etc. as we believe that mixing everyone together better fosters tolerance, acceptance, guidance, leadership, awareness, and empathy and we want to make sure no family is left without support.
