Taking The Refuge and Bodhisattva Vows

Greetings!

Several of our Shingyo Sangha members will be taking the Refuge Vows and/or Bodhisattva Vows at a mountain retreat center in WV (just under 2 hours from Baltimore). You are welcome to join us if you are a regular friend of the Insight Center community & its members; you do not need to take the vows.

Please join us, bring a vegetarian dish, and spend some quality time with your sangha (community). There is no fee, but you must RSVP at least one week prior to the event.

Shingyo [Joyous Trusting ] Sangha Vow Taking Ceremony

. Come and be part of our community (Sangha) as some members take (or recommit to) The Refuge Vows and/or the Bodhisattva vows. You do not have to be a member of the Sangha or a practicing Buddhist to join with us that day.

(Itinerary (loosely followed)
10 am arrive
10:30-11:30 discussion of the Refuge and Bodhisattva vows
11:30 -noon break
12-1 lunch/potluck social (please bring a vegetarian dish)
1 - 2:30 break
2:30 to 3:30 the Vows ceremony
3:30 to 3:45 break
3:45 to 4:15 Installation of Chip as a Shingyo Sangha Lay Minister
4:30 to 6 Kirtan/chants
6pm on…hanging out, socializing, enjoying nature, etc.

Refuge Vows
I go for refuge to the Buddha,
I go for refuge to the Dharma,
I go for refuge to the Sangha.

Bodhisattva vows
Beings are numberless; I vow to awaken with them.
Delusions are inexhaustible, I vow to end them.
Dharma gates are boundless; I vow to enter them.
Buddha’s way is unsurpassable; I vow to become it.
