What we’re about
Unplugged 2024 - All you need to know on classical music in Cape Town (with links to all the jazz as well!)
Unplugged aims to promote and support the vast range of unplugged / acoustic- mainly classical - music being performed live around Cape Town by professional musicians. From solo concerts to full orchestra, from traditional concert halls to art galleries, from Baroque to Chamber Jams, there is something for everyone right on our doorstep. If you are keen to explore and feel the passion of live performance this is a group for you.
For 2024 my main aim is to keep you informed of what is happening around Cape Town. I may not be able to organise Meet & Greets but hope that you are inspired to check out live music in and around the Cape once more whether alone or in groups and I am here to advise and help with what may interest you.
I manage the Cape Town Concert Series and am artist Liaison for La Motte in Franschhoek, I also compile the daily calendar for Fine Music Radio, present Matinee and try to keep my finger on the post of all things classical, some jazz and occasional acoustic when I can!
Check our discussion board for updates and if you are going to any of these events independently, let me know and maybe we can meetup 'impromptu', and if you are running a Meetup event group and please feel free to feature one of these events with your group.

SATURDAY 27 APRIL : PIANO RECITAL
The Cape Town Concert Series 2024 presents the dynamic young pianist Daniel Kharitonov who will celebrate the music of Chopin and Rachmaninoff.Kharitonov sprang to fame when he won Bronze Medal in the 15th Tchaikovsky International Competition- arguably one of the most demanding competitions in the world. What brings wonder and magic to this achievement, is that he was only 15 at the time! Now aged 25 - his programme explores the first mature set of masterpieces by his compatriot Rachmaninoff: the Six Moments Musicaux Op.16, where the composer waves a firm but gentle goodbye to the Chopin-inspired romanticism of his early works, in order to embrace the steely new Russian Virtuoso which he was becoming. Kharitonov will balance the Russian composer-pianist’s works with Chopin, the very composer-pianist by whom Rachmaninov was so inspired. The 12 Études Op.25 provide the litmus test for any pianist: flawless technique has to be employed, to elevate these Études to the works of poetry they were intended to be. Held in the heart between these two towering challenges, will be two of Chopin’s most famous Nocturnes.
For more on the programme you can go Inside the Concert with Albert Combrink at our www.ctconcerts.co.za
The concert starts at 3pm in the Baxter Concert Hall and tickets are still available from Webtickets-
