Hi. I'm Rebekah, and I'm adopted. I moved to the Upper Valley in 2016 and quickly noticed that while there are a lot of groups and organizations that support adoptive parents near this area, there's nothing specifically and exclusively for adopted people like myself.
I've met three fellow adoptees in the 2.5 years I've lived here so far. I know there must be more. And I don't know about you, but I have a severe lack of people in my life who really understand the complicated mish-mash of feelings I have and have always carried with me about family, about identity, about adoption—both my own adoption and the institution of adoption itself.
I'm starting this group to connect with more adoptees in the area so we can support each other in our shared experience, talk about things we don't always feel safe sharing with our families or friends who are not adopted, take action together to change state and federal policies that treat us unequally from other Americans, and (hopefully) find a sense of wholeness through connection and adoptee understanding.
I envision regular, casual meetings in my living room or a nearby pub or coffee shop where we can connect and talk for an hour or two. Maybe some outdoor activities. I'm open to suggestions on venue and structure!
