Cooking for Dismas House on Thurs

We need volunteers to make and bring and eat food to the Hartford Dismas House for approx. 15 people. We need main dish, salad, side dishes and dessert. We will be doing this every other even month, i.e. Dec., Feb., Apr.,June, Aug., Oct. Dec.,( 6 times a year). We did this once before, back in August and Debbie Diegoli (the house manager) was very pleased to have us come back. When you reply let us know what food you are interested in bringing so we cover all the types of food we need to prepare. This is really "Helping Often. "

Please note that Dismas House allows only 3 people to eat with the residents. Please add a comment to indicate whether you'd be cooking and eating at Dismas or dropping off food. Base on past experience, they claim to be "meat and potatoes" people. They appreciate left overs for lunch and whenever hungry. Soups are not great because they're not filling enough. The coordinator is a vegan would appreciate something small. When we were there in August, we found the residents to be very well informed and we really enjoyed our interesting conversations.

The residents get a sense of normalcy from rubbing shoulders with people in the community. We got to have some fun talks with them as well as feeling we'd shared both a meal and a bit of ourselves.

This meetup was great! The Dismas residents are smart, polite and interesting. Bringing dinner and sharing it with them was a real pleasure. The renovated, circa 1900 house is cheerful and warm, and every last thing in it was donated. I am looking forward to preparing another dinner for them and going back!!

A little tough to find in the dark however we were warmly greeted. The home is inspirational. Absolutely beautiful and it's residents surely enjoy the peaceful, beautiful and support this home offers.

Hi. I just joined. Live in Fairlee 8 months/yr, DC 4 months. Mostly involved in environmental work but now also want to get more involved in helping mitigate adverse effects of new administration on vulnerable populations in my area of Vermont. Would also like to find ways to reach out to people on the other side of the political divide, maybe help narrow the gap a bit. This seems like a group that might be doing these kinds of things. I look forward to meeting some of you when I return to Fairlee for the winter.

Hello, all: Will be seeing Diana and Mickey tomorrow to help with cooking, but it looks like my Thanksgiving guest is picking Thursday as the day to come... Since I can go to another Dismas meeting in the spring why doesn't someone else take my place at the dinner this Thursday and everything will work out. Sound ok?

The sausage will be part of the spaghetti sauce. Glad to know what the number of people will be.

Hi, everyone-Just wanted to let you know I got an email from Debbie Diegoli, the Director at Dismas House to let us know they currently have 8 residents and one or two will probably be working so we need to feed 3 of us , one staff member and 6 to 8 residents - 12 total at most. Debbie won't be there though I will make a salad for us. I also am planning to make a corn pudding as a side dish to go with whatever meat (the pork loin you mentioned before?) Gerry is bringing which will be good since they are known to be big meat eaters and there might be someone who doesn't eat spaghetti !

Hello everyone, I've updated the guidelines that Dismas House sent us. Here's the link. http://files.meetup.com/2932232/COOKING%20AT%20HARTFORD%20DISMAS%20HOUSE.pdf
Also, a clarification, they only allow 3 of us to eat with the residents, and others can either drop off food (which is always appreciated), and/or sign up for a future meal (i.e. February, April, first Thursday of even months).
