November 8th is World Usability Day! The products and services we design can have serious ethical implications, and often not considered in the standard engagement model. Join UXPA DC as we explore this year’s theme, Design for Good or Evil, in two parts.

First, we’ll have an afternoon unconference where members of the community have an opportunity to share a talk or presentation, followed by a networking happy hour.

Then in the evening we’re very excited that UXPA DC member Kat Zhou will present a workshop based on the UX framework she developed that will empower attendees with a powerful set of tools for ethically evaluating the potential impact of our work.

DESIGNING ETHICALLY: FROM MORAL IMPERATIVE TO ACTION
We’ve heard it again and again: the tech industry desperately needs an ethical reinvention. More than ever, we are realizing that our products have vast effects on society and that taking time to consider the ethical consequences behind decisions is crucial. What are some actionable steps that designers can take to steer products in the right direction? In this workshop, learn to forecast effects for products and design for positive impact. As designers, we’re in a powerful position to lead the ethical tech movement because our craft is grounded in human-centered insights. And what is more human-centric than making ethical choices that will ultimately help users and society at large?
