All Tied Up with Strings

Languages like Python, JavaScript, Java and C# have a single string datatype. Why does C++ have so many different kinds of string types? Why would I want to use something other than std::string? Why would I want to use C-style strings? What's this newfangled C++17 string_view thing?

After a brief discussion of these questions, we'll spend most of our time looking at C-style strings, std::string and std::string_view in a group programming exercise.
