VRManchester V

Hello Explorers!

Join us on Wednesday 7th of December at Rise Manchester, on Deansgate.

2016 has been an incredible year for Virtual Reality, and as we head into the festive season we’d like to get together for our 5th meetup and invite you to join other VR enthusiasts, developers and curious minds for a fun evening before all the Christmas parties fill up your calendars!

We are going to have cool demos, inspiring talks, free cookies and also a chance to debate on what this year has brought us and where VR will go next.

If this is your first time at VRManchester or if you are new to this virtual world and would like a gentle introduction, jump in a little early for our newbie session at 6PM, otherwise please come along for the introduction at 7PM.

We’re happy to support another great Manchester community venue and will be debuting the meetup at Rise on Deansgate.

Our speakers will be Jed Ashforth from PlayStation to talk all about PSVR and Tom Parnell from BBC R&D to talk about the 3D audio and binaural techniques that won them the TVB Achievement in Sound award for “The Turning Forest VR”.

Again we are honoured to have demos from local developers and the chance to see many headsets up close. Expect PSVR, Rift, Vive, GearVR and more!

See you there :)

VR Manchester V will be supported by Rise https://thinkrise.com/manchester and Cooler Master http://eu.coolermaster.com/uk/

Just to second other people's comments on here, last nights meetup was really enjoyable with great talks from Jed and Tom and interesting demos available to try. The new venue was also interesting with a more casual atmosphere - definitely approve of the name labels and beer too! ;)

Many thanks to the organisers and speakers for the time and effort they put in.

Hey all. Very sorry I couldn't go to the meet-up this time. I was looking forward to it too. I hopefully make the next one as it sounds like everyone had a good time. Need to test out the Daydream at some point too :)

By the way, I have 2 unboxed new Oculus Rifts to sell if anyone is interested. Selling for £450 each.

Received my Oculus touch yesterday, day before release! Had the day off, ended up swapping my home office with the larger bedroom so I could set up a bigger play space, about 7ft square. Finally got set up about 7pm after hours of moving furniture. Tried out loads of things on Oculus and Steam, had 10 games still downloading when I finally went to bed at 2am, bit of a pain they can't download or install while playing.
Some minor occlusion issues with the two front cameras setup about 6ft apart, much more noticeable when playing Steam games (especially as despite setting up steam vr room scale and orienting the play space facing the camera most games start me facing away!).
Favourite game on Oculus so far, the Bullet Train demo! Really can't wait for Robo Recall. But Space Pirate Trainer is awesome too. Best Touch compatible game on Steam last night was Accounting followed by The Lab. So many more games to try out this week. See you all on Wednesday!

There's a setting in Steam that allows you to download other stuff whilst playing something that's already installed ;)

    • Andy A.

Yeah Steam is fine, it's Oculus that pauses downloads whenever you open a game, had to leave it overnight to install the huge amount of games bundled and purchased yesterday

can someone please bring Google Earth VR?

    1 · November 20

    • Luca C.

Hi Sotira. Do you mean we can use Google Earth VR with that? How does it work and how big it is? That sounds amazing but space might be an issue, if not we can discuss about using it in future meetups?

Is the planetarium dome something like this or a physical (inflatable?) dome?

Is this a first come first serve on the night ?

    November 21

    • Si L.

If you're registered to attend then there no problem coming along - I've just upped capacity after talking with venue rep, demos will be available to queue for and in other meetups noone has said they felt like they missed out. Waiting times are usually only a few minutes. There should be a variety of things to try on the night. Hope that helps!

      1 · November 21

    • Duane B.

Hi Si, is the capacity going to be extended beyond 120?

      November 25

  • Tanya L.

Si, on the off chance I can't make it to you in person, whats the chances you can have some elements of your meetup available via AltSpace?

    November 21

    • Luigi

We are working on something like that, not sure if AltSpace or a 360 video on youtube. Telepresence is important, especially for VR people!

      November 21

  • Tedrux

Hi folks. I wouldn't mind a review of tech. Ideally not too focused on proprietary gadgets, more an overview of performance and different methods of real time rendering for BYOD - if possible. Cheers.
