Game on! – The contribution of VR to video games and game-like experiences

Details

Video games have come a long way since the time of their first ancestors. Nowadays, this medium has not only become a full-fledged channel of artistic expression, but it’s also allowing us to connect with our most profound human emotions, making us understand the world around us, our peers, and even ourselves a bit better.

For this edition of VRVienna, we’ve partnered up with Subotron (Vienna’s highly acclaimed hub for the discourse on digital games) to offer you an evening of inspiration, knowledge, and, of course, fun! We’re going to hear from 5 VR creators who will share their take on the use of VR in game-like experiences, both from a theoretical and a hands-on perspective.

Are you ready, player one? ;)

🤖 SPEAKERS & TALKS

• Marlen Jachek (FH St.Pölten) – Game Over - Try Again? – What we can learn about positive failure culture in games to create better VR learning environments

• Georgi Kostov (Playful Interactive Environments - FH Hagenberg) – Playful together - extending VR beyond the private space

• Wolfgang Tschauko (VR Giants) – Body presence in virtual reality

• Michael Michael Bieglmayer & Igor Mitric (Cybershoes) – From architect to VR shoemaker

🚀 EXPERIENCE CORNER

Same as all our former Meetups, we’re going to have some fun trying out some VR experiences from some of Austria’s most talented VR creators!

• Levers & Buttons VR game, by team Five Hours of Sleep

You are one of a kind. At least, that is what they tell you. In reality, you are a clone of a particular alien species that is particularly good at cleaning. That is your destiny. Cleaning the spaceship you are assigned to, with the help of your partner who is sitting in a control room, pulling levers and pressing buttons... But this time it’s different! The ship has caught fire, which must be extinguished immediately to save the passengers! That shouldn’t be a problem for such a rehearsed team as you, right? Use your cooperative skills to become heroes among the other clones!

Also, we’re going to have the great opportunity to try out the almighty Cybershoes for ourselves! Does it get better than this? Hardly.

IMPORTANT NOTE!

Due to the sudden growth of our community (yay!), we have implemented some new features regarding venue capacity to ensure you have the best experience possible during our Meetups! However, places are still limited, so hurry up and RSVP soon.

Can’t wait to see you on the 3rd! :)
