What we're about

Welcome to VanCity Newcomers (20's~30's) Group !!

For anyone between the age of 20-30's has moved to the GVA recently and wants to branch out and make new friends/connections/memories and learn about living in BC.

VanCity Newcomers is a Social Networking Group for newcomers who want to meet other Locals and Expats in a relaxed and casual environment. Our meetups are held once or twice every month.

VanCity is a wonderful place but it is much nicer with friends who would like to make interesting connections with newcomers!

While we are called the Expats Club, everyone is welcome to join. There is nothing better than expatriates and locals interacting and socialising together.

It allows for interesting conversations and enriching experiences. We will help you shrink the time it takes to create a social network and that too with others who are also new here.

Would you love to HOST meetups, get experience with different cultures whilst making new friends and also get PAID? Are you a people person? Do you love to go out, plan and organize events, meet new people and help people connect with each other? If you can relate to this then we may have the perfect opportunity for YOU! The cherry on the top is that you get great experience, learn new skills, rapidly expand your own network and you get paid for doing something you LOVE to do! It also makes you the social leader of the group and enables you to rapidly expand your network. You’ll be hosting our drinks, socialising evenings and also some activity events for our groups. If you are up for this extremely satisfying yet challenging role then get in touch with Dan at [masked] or write him a Whatsapp or text on [masked]. A frequent performer of new and rarely heard works, his interests lie mainly with the contemporary music canon and combining these works with the standard repertoire in an illuminating fashion. An instrumentalist who is not afraid to cross the traditional boundaries of programming and performance practice, he is active as a solo and collaborative concert pianist on modern and historical instruments and is also experienced in the fields of improvisation, composition, and conducting. He has performed extensively in the Americas, across Europe, South Africa, and the Middle East, and recent highlights include concerto performances with Philippe Herreweghe and the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century. He has otherwise performed as concerto soloist with the World Youth Symphony Orchestra, Eastman Wind Ensemble, Noord Nederlands Orkest, Amman Symphony Orchestra, Kwazulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, Concerto Armonico Freiburg, and the new-music ensemble OSSIA, among others. Significant solo activities include numerous performances of Frederic Rzewski’s epic 36 Variations on ‘The People United Will Never Be Defeated!’ and frequent work with composers such as Frederic Rzewski, Steve Reich, and Louis Andriessen as well as regular work with peer composers of his own generation. Bobby records for the Alpha / Outhere music label (Haydn on an original pianoforte), and his YouTube channel has become an Internet phenomenon for classical and improvised piano music, with more than half-a-million views. Primary teachers include Nelita True, David Kuyken, Robert Hill, Rudolf Lutz, Stephen Perry, and Bart van Oort.
