Yep. You've got that feeling pegged juuuust right—it starts in the guts and works its way to the bowels. It brings on night terrors and brutal Imposter Syndrome. We're talking about all those terrible times we've f*cked up on our projects. And to give a voice to the stories you know you want to tell yourselves but can't, we've selected a panel of truly brave PMs (who also happen to be fantastic Meetup Volunteers) to tell their tales. Join us for a real talk panel with Katie Bedford, Rachael Currie, Shay Kingsbury, and Travis Gertz who will be spilling their guts and getting real on the darkest PM days they've ever had and how they dealt with them. Come with some tissues and a heart. We'll provide the beer and pizza.
6:00 pm: Pizza & beer and good convos
6:30–7:30 pm: Real talk PM panel & QA
7:30–8:00 pm: Chats and ongoing catharsis
8:00–8:30 pm: Clean up and skedaddle
Meet your panelists.
Digital PM Consultant, Bedford Consulting
Before starting my own consulting firm, I spent five years working as a project manager in the museum industry creating interactive digital exhibits. In the seven years prior, I worked as a systems engineer in the aerospace industry on space robotics and satellite programs. And prior to that I was a wild-and-crazy kid who jumped at every opportunity that came my way—be it volunteering in Africa, travelling across Europe as a laser service technician, and learning to fly a plane before learning to drive a car.
Digital Producer MetaLab
I’m a digital native working in the design & technology space for the past 10ish years. I’ve had the pleasure of working with a wide variety of super smart people, which has enabled me to develop a solid background in strategic digital project management, cross-functional team leadership and I’ll always advocate for the user. I’m currently working with the fine folk at MetaLab delivering beautiful world class products.
I’m originally from New Zealand, I’ve lived in Australia, Papua New Guinea and I now call Vancouver, Canada home - hence why my accent is so wack. My life essentials are (in order) - coffee, food, music, vegemite toast, and travel. I’ve recently taken up pottery which is my digital detox therapy.
Development Manager EA Games
Shay Kingsbury is a Development Manager at EA Games, and Project Manager for the not-for-profit research organization Women in Tech World. She spends her daylight hours building world class development teams and delivering software projects. And her evening hours leading delivery across volunteer teams at Women in Tech World, including the operations, design, content and marketing teams. Shay is notoriously clumsy, prone to failures and can't believe she has lived this long without being fired.
CoFounder Louder Than Ten
Travis is a partner and designer at Louder Than Ten. He went to school to design magazines, ended up making digital products, and now does everything he can to bring those two worlds together on a mission to improve how people learn. And also to help the world see how cool and underrated project management actually is.
