• What we'll do
Teaching STEM/STEAM using VR/AR

Cyri Jones of Zen Maker Lab and Tom Dowad of Scridgets will share their experience of using VR/AR in kids maker programs to help them learn coding, electronics, 3D printing and 3D design and more. Not every child can get access to a maker lab at school or in their community. Will VR/AR provide opportunities for those that can't access the resources of a maker lab? Will VR/AR supplement the learning of kids within a maker lab or school setting by showing more intuitive instructions for how to build complex 3D models and electronics? We will discuss how VR/AR is being used in K-12. What are the drawbacks and what are the opportunities. BCIT and the Hololens

BCIT has been an innovator and pioneer in integrating AR into curriculum and have a number of Hololenses that students and faculty can book from the library. James Rout, Associate Vice-President, Education Support and Innovation, will share BCIT's vision for AR/VR and how they have integrated this new approach into BCIT's curriculum. Richard Te, from Media Works in the BCIT Library will share his experiences seeing the Hololenses being loaned out and the AR/VR program being supported.

Demo
At the end of the talks there will be live demo of Scridet's Clock System controlled by a Hololens, SOC Robotics HandSense Inertial Glove
and a demonstration of a new low cost AR Headset call AR Box. AR Box is a $50 AR headset that uses an Android or iphone to display Hololgrams in an AR setting.
