What we're about

This group is for any amateur jazz musicians or singers who want to get together to practice playing and improvising over jazz standards in a fun and supportive atmosphere. It's better and more motivating to make music together! You don't have to take a solo and can comp or play the written melody but you must be able to play your instrument in time and at tempo. Singers are welcome to scat too. Jam sessions announced in this meetup group are not all the same - they are organized and hosted independently. Please read the session descriptions carefully as each session and host may have a different format, songbook or other expectations. Check the website pages and discussion board for more information.

Members are encouraged to host or organize their own jam sessions. The number of attendee's at a jam is almost always limited and an RSVP required. If you RSVP for a jam, it's a commitment to show up on time and play or sing. Most events are private and do not allow for an audience or guests. If you have to cancel, please release your RSVP at least 24 hours beforehand so someone else has the opportunity to attend and contribute to the session. If you get on the waitlist, RSVP's may get adjusted 48 hours before the jam to balance the instrumentation and vocals. Anyone remaining on the waitlist will be given preference for a subsequent jam but it's down to the host.

Swing Jam!

Surprise! The WJA is happy to partner with St. Agnes to put on an awesome shindig on the Northshore! Featuring the fantastic Teresa Riley who will teach us the basics of Swing Dance, and the magnificent Bonnie Northgraves who will host our jam, this night has something for everyone! Admission is $10, however, students/seniors are admissions by donation! There will be a house kit, bass, keyboard and PA there!

Anniversary Social & Jam in Edgemont

Ian's House

I held the first jazzy jam meetup on April 16th 2015 and International Jazz Day is April 30th so it feels like I should host a little celebration... So I'm hosting an open house in the afternoon for everyone that's supported VJJ over these years and let's play too! Please bring your own drinks and small contribution to nibbles would be appreciated. We can't use the suite anymore as a green room so the social will have to be on the main floor of the house while the jam is downstairs. If the weather is nice, the back deck is a great spot to hangout too.
