What we're about

This group is about photography and walking around the beautiful city of Vancouver and capturing candid images of the city and its surrounding beauty. The idea here is to get together with other photographers and have a great time just talking photography, having a great outing and enjoying our city.

So, who should join?

Photographers, no matter how experienced can join. If you got a new point and shoot camera last week or you only have a smartphone camera, or even if you are a seasoned pro with years behind the lens, this group is for you. The vision (scuse the pun) is to get out in the city and outdoors and capture the beauty that surrounds us. You don't have to know the camera world jargon, you don't have to know what an F-Stop is, but you might learn about that when we get together. This group is for photography enthusiasts of any level of expertise.

You are welcome to join us, we would like to have Photowalks every weekend in the future, so lets make this happen..join us now!

What does it cost?

There is no cost to join a Photowalk, they are FREE. The only cost will be in your time and transportation to get to the place where the photowalk is taking place.

We are planning to have 2 Photomarathons (more about this later) a year, which will be charged for, but the photowalks will always be free.

How do I join?

Just click on the JOIN US button at the top of the page, answer the questions and you are in!

Italian Day on the Drive - focus on street and food photography

Fratelli's Authentic Italian Bakery

After a 3 year break, Italian Day on the Drive is back!
Right now It looks like the weather will cooperate so let's go experience one of the cities favourite street festivals.

Italian Day on the drive (http://italianday.ca) is an annual festival held on the second Sunday in June on Commercial Drive, home to Little Italy. The drive will be transformed into a lively and vibrant 14 block festa. It is the day to celebrate Italian heritage, culture and community and is also on the City of Vancouver’s list of official observances.

Where will we meet? We will meet beside Fratelli's Bakery at the SE corner of Commercial Drive and East 2nd Avenue. I chose to start it earlier, to avoid the massive crowds that will show up as the day goes on. The festival runs from 12:00 to 8:00...the photo walk will end at 2:00, but you can stay and continue to take photos and eat as long as you want. If it rains, I will not cancel the event, but I also may not attend.

What can I photograph? Since there is always so much interest in the food at this festival, let's make food our focus! You can photograph food and drink all up and down the Drive. Just about all the stores and restaurants will have setup outside. You can photograph groceries ready to be prepared, sausages grilling, gelato, dining tables, the food trucks. Practise your street photography skills and capture people eating & drinking...or cooking and serving food .....there will be lot's of great photo opportunities. If you want to photograph something inside a shop or restaurant, you should be courteous and ask permission.

Because there will be a lot of people attending this event it is virtually impossible to remain together as a group .... IF YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE ABOUT THIS, PLEASE BUDDY UP WITH SOMEONE AT THE BEGINNING OR BRING A FRIEND ALONG.

How do I get there? Take the Skytrain to Commercial Drive Station and get off there. Walk North to East Second Avenue. You can also catch a bus or drive there, although parking will be limited and there are road closures.

What should I bring?
Of course your camera, any camera will do. The streets will be very crowded, so I suggest minimum gear. Comfy shoes it could be a long walk!

AT ALL TIMES, PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF YOURSELF AND YOUR FELLOW PHOTO WALKERS, YOUR PROPERTY AND YOUR SURROUNDINGS! VANCOUVER PHOTOWALKS AND ITS ORGANIZERS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU OR LOSS OF YOUR BELONGINGS!

By signing up for this photowalk, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the above.

We looking forward to seeing you there!

After the photo-walk please share up to 8 photos in the album
