Writing a Low Budget Screenplay

  • May 10, 2014 · 11:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

The best chance for a new writer to sell a script is to write a low budget screenplay. Producers are much more willing to take a chance with an unknown writer if there isn't a lot of money on the line, and having a low budget script shows you can write with costs in mind.

But do you know what those costs are? It's more than just locations and special effects. There are many pitfalls to avoid, things you probably don't realize can have a significant impact on a film's budget.

In this workshop we'll go over the dos and dont's of low budget screenwriting, look at some film clips for examples of cost avoidance, and workshop your scripts to identify ways to bring down the budget. If you don't have a script already, this is valuable information to have when you do start writing.

Where: The Living Room (also known as My Place)

Located one block from the Yaletown-Roundhouse Skytrain station, or there is free underground visitor parking (entrance at 388 Drake St).

Buzzer 740 to enter. If you park underground, a second buzzer is required to reach the elevator, follow the signs for 1328 Homer (and I'll post meetup signs too).

Cash and credit cards accepted. Coffee/tea will be provided.

Sadly I must withdraw for family reasons. I was quite looking forward to this and hope there will be another in the near future.

Just have to see if I can get the day off work. If I can - I am there! I have a low budget horror flick ready to rock (or so I think)...
