The purpose of this group is to provide a friendly and welcoming community to folks of all backgrounds who are interested in sound design. We are committed to fostering a space where we can support each other and share knowledge, helping to diversify the sound design community and support underrepresented people in the industry. We will help make it easier to enter the post audio and game audio industries by facilitating educational lectures, mentorship opportunities, Q&As, and social meetups on a monthly basis.
Hello! Hope you’ve been well since last we spoke.
The Vancouver Sound Designers group is back online and jumping into summer. We’ve a few new organizers on board and are working through a slate of events for the rest of the year, hoping to create (or re-create) a welcoming educational and social space for all persons and levels of experience. If you’re interested in sound design: this is where you belong.
1— We’ve a new code of conduct that speaks to the respect and inclusivity all members are expected to afford one another. Please take a read-through: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1r1vSTb9_MP3dMWQn1ehZ6GC3BDJPa10PZs7rvmQlbD0/
If you’ve any suggestions, our email box is completely open.
2— New organizers! These folks are working to reignite the scene and help maintain the community. Please welcome Em Halberstadt, Rachel Sim, Gordon McGladdery, Millie Wissar, Miguel Araujo and Luca Fusi to the group.
3— We’re starting things off with a social meetup this month:
When: THU May 30th, 7PM
Where: VFS Cafe, W Hastings St between Homer and Hamilton, Vancouver, BC V6B 1K6
Come down and meet your peers, catch up about what you’ve been working on or just share plans for the summer. We’re looking forward to sharing more about what’s up next for the group as we lock in speakers, venues and events.
This event is generously sponsored by the Vancouver Film School.
Have a great rest of your week!
